Registrar Snitched on Government, Says Mweetwa

By Kalata News,

LUSAKA: The Registrar of Societies, Thandiwe Mhende was removed from her officer because she snitched on the government, said Minister of Information, Cornelius Mweetwa.

Answering questions from journalists in Lusaka during a press conference held to respond to the Catholic Bishop’s Letter, Minister Cornelius Mweetwa said Ms Mhende shared Government information with lawyers of the Patriotic Front without authorisation.

“She (Mhende) is lucky that she was not fired. She shared information that was subject to a court order without authorisation from the Attorney General or her superiors. If it was in the previous regime should have been looking for another job as we speak,” he said.

Minister Mweetwa said the Registrar of Societies should have been sensitive to the issues happening to the Patriotic Front as regards who were the office bearers and as such should have sought guidance if she was not sure.

According to a Government letter to Ms Mhende, she was ‘with immediate effect’ relieved of her duties and ‘surrendered’ to Cabinet Office for redeployment.

In the recent past, two factions have emerged at Zambia’s main opposition party, the Patriotic Front (PF). One faction is led by Matero Member of Parliament, Miles Sampa, while the other is led by former President Edgar Lungu.

Both factions have besieged the office of the Registrar of Societies to recognise them as the official office bearers at the Patriotic Front, leading to challenges being made in the Zambian Courts and before the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Nellie Mutti.
