Grizzly Mining’s ‘Pilala Stone’ Shines at Dubai Auction, Drawing Global Attention to Zambian Emeralds
By John Chola
19/05/2025 – GRIZZLY MINING Limited, has successfully auctioned the Pilala Stone at the Dubai Gemstone May Auction.
Grizzly Mining, one of Zambia’s largest emerald producers, made headlines in May after successfully auctioning a rare, high-grade emerald known as “The Pilala Stone” during its 2025 Dubai gemstone sale.
The auction attracted intense international interest, ultimately culminating in the sale of the 6,620-carat emerald to KBK Gemstones of Jaipur, India.
Exhibiting exceptional transparency and a vibrant fluorescent green hue, The Pilala Stone was sourced from Grizzly Mining’s flagship Camara pit in the Lufwanyama region of Northern Zambia.
Industry experts and buyers at the Dubai auction say the gem’s size, clarity, and vivid color set it apart as one of the most significant emerald finds in recent years.

According to Grizzly Mining, the Dubai auction was a resounding success, thanks in part to the company’s dedication to sustainable mining practices and ethical sourcing.
The auction brought together major players in the global gemstone industry, reinforcing Zambia’s reputation as a leading producer of world-class emeralds.

“We are proud of all the work our team has done to make the Dubai auction 2025 a success,” the company stated online.
The emerald giant also highlighted the importance of “mining with purpose,” echoing its ongoing commitment to eco-mining, sustainable luxury, and value addition at the source.
The successful sale of The Pilala Stone not only boosts Grizzly Mining’s standing in the luxury gems market but also casts a spotlight on Zambia’s growing prominence in the global colored gemstone trade.
As the international appetite for ethically sourced, high-quality emeralds continues to grow, industry observers believe the success of this auction could spark increased investment and exploration activities in the region.
Grizzly Mining’s next steps will likely include expanding its mining operations and continuing to promote Zambia’s unique gemstone heritage on the global stage through similar high-profile auctions.
