Chipata – THE Zambian soap manufacturing companies have come to the rescue of travelers and hoteliers by manufacturing small scented soaps.
Also relieved are lovers (men and women) who find relief in sneaking in lodges and hotels for a short time of pleasure.
This market, which previously was invaded by foreign, strong smelling carbolic soaps, had left many a lodge owners scratching their heads as to how they can cater for the bathing needs of their guests.
Nicknamed ‘isopo ilyabuchende’ (soaps for brothels), these strong scented soaps made many married man or women to avoid them each time they found them in their hotel or lodge room as using them was bound to attract stares and questions back at home or back at the office.
“These soaps were so strong to the point of being pungent that they left their marks on your hands and body each time one used them. At home you were likely to attract questions of where you have been because of their smell,” explained one traveler.
He as a business man who travels a lot, always carrying a soap was not feasible and so he relies on lodges and hotels providing them with soaps.
Fortunately for the Zambian market, local companies such as Trade Kings, among others have begun manufacturing small sized soaps in various scents and looks.
These mild or comfortable scented soaps have once again given courage to lodgers, hoteliers and travelers to carry them back at home as souvenirs or soaps to give to their children.
One hopes these local companies will improve and expand the supply of these soaps to schools and other public places so the public can improve their hygiene by using these small sized soaps.
